PC-BSD, based on BSD and designed with the "casual" computer user in mind, uses Metalink for their ISO downloads. If you're not ready to replace Windows, test out the PC-BSD VMWare image. You might get hooked! It also has other neat things like PBI for package installation (there is a PBI for aria2) and the people are very helpful and friendly. Thanks, Charles!
